About Vitamin K2

Vitamin K1 versus Vitamin K2

Although Vitamin K is not a mainstream Vitamin in the western diet, it is still an essential Vitamin and is important for proper bodily function. Vitamin K can actually be divided into K1 and K2 but Vitamin K2 has been found to be more effective in lowering risk of heart disease. Additionally, Vitamin K2 is more bioavailable and is absorbed throughout the body whereas Vitamin K1 is only absorbed by the liver. For these reasons, Vitamin K2 is usually used in supplements instead of Vitamin K1.

Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is a group of compounds and can be naturally found in animal foods and fermented foods like from meats, cheeses, and eggs, and other foods synthesized by bacteria. Vitamin K2 can be further divided into several different subtypes. The most important ones are MK-4 and MK-7. At the moment, there is not enough data on MK-4 to support its effectiveness; however, MK-7 has been measured to significantly increase Vitamin K levels in the body.

Vitamin K2 Benefits

  • Supports your mood and immune system

  • Helps clot blood

  • Supports bone health

Vitamin K2 Supports Mood and The Immune System

A research study concluded that higher levels of Vitamin K are associated with lower presence of depressive symptoms, suggesting a role for this vitamin in the prevention and treatment of depressed mood.

How Vitamin K2 Helps Blood Clot

Vitamin K helps to make four of the 13 proteins needed for blood clotting, which stops wounds from continuously bleeding so they can heal. People who are prescribed anticoagulants to prevent blood clots from forming in the heart, lung, or legs are often informed about Vitamin K.

Vitamin K2 Supports Bone Health

Vitamin K is important for the formation of healthy, strong bones and its maintenance by supporting proper calcium metabolism in vascular structures. In a clinical trial conducted in China looking at the effects of Vitamin K2 on bone density in adults aged 50 to 75, it was found that women receiving Vitamin K2 had improved bone density status as measured at the top of the thigh bone as compared to the women receiving a placebo.

Vitamin D and Vitamin K

Because Vitamin D3 also promotes calcium absorption and helps in utilization, the two vitamins work together syngerictically to provide complete bone health support.

D3 + K2 Elite derives its Vitamin K2 in the form of MK-7 from natto. Japanese Fermented Natto is natural, potent, bioavailable and research supported. Working together with Vitamin D3, it can help boost proper calcium absorption and utilization to enhance bone strength and health.*
